So now you can listen whenever you like! Just go to www.live365.com/stations/radiokonline

The full playlist will play throughout the day, and every evening at 8pm BST (3pm East Coast), there is a special genre-themed broadcast. Monday plays a slightly random selection which will change every week, Tuesday is chilled & acoustic, Wednesday is pop & rock, Thursday is punk, indie & rock, and Friday is all my favourites from all genres!

I'd love it if you could go check it out and see what you think. Feel free to rate the station and the tracks played, and keep it on in the background while you do laundry this weekend :)

If you're in a band, please check that all your song details are correct, particularly the album title. For the ones I didn't know I just put "demo" but please let me know if there is an actual album title!

There's a slight change on the website that will be going in over the weekend. The featured artist will be whoever garners the highest rating on Live365 for the week, or whoever gets the most votes (by email at radiokvote@hotmail.com). So tell all your fans to listen and vote and you could be the featured artist! This week's winner is The Superstition, and there will be a blurb about them shortly. For now, check out their MySpace (they are one of my friends).

I'll keep you posted on any other changes, but in the meantime, let me know what you think!

Thanks for listening!

This week on Radio K!

THE PLAYLIST:
1. They came into the audience and did a few songs, which was very cool. The crowd loved them, and rightly so! A really really fun night.

The Boy Least Likely To @ KCLSU:
Another really fun band. They really performed which doesn't always happen. The only thing that slightly ruined it was the really arrogant lead singer! I just think, "If I was in a band full of really talented multi-instrumentalists and all I do is sing (and don't even do it really well!), I'd be worried about being replaced by someone better!" Other than that, an excellent night out.

Figure 6 @ HalfMoon Putney:
Part of HalfMoon Unsigned. Great female-fronted rock group - even Dave liked them! The guitarist, Drew, had a collapsed lung the week before and managed to make it through the gig and still be amazing! Great vocals and lovely songs.

Silvermaker @ HalfMoon Putney:
Same night as Figure 6. Another female-fronted rock group, but slightly more agressive than Figure 6. They've got a really recognisable sound - very marketable, I think - and a really strong stage presence, courtesy of singer Annelies. Good if you're in an angry mood and need to vent!

CherryBlackStone @ HalfMoon Putney:
This week's featured artist on Radio K. They are unlike anything you will have heard before. Described as funk/pop/rock with influences from Bowie, The Beatles, Prince and Coldplay, they sound a bit like Black Eyed Peas, Jamiroquai, and Lenny Kravitz. Totally unique, amazing sound, highly recommended.

More to come....

Kelli

Recommended gigs in London this week:

Monday 8th May 8:00pm
Julia Biel @ Islington Academy
www.juliabiel.com

Tuesday 9th May 7:30pm
Fiery Furnaces @ KCLSU

Wednesday 10th May 7:30pm
James Morrisson @ Eve Club

Thursday 11th May 7:30pm
Room Six @ The Bedford, Balham
www.thebedford.com

Friday 12th May 7:00pm
Dresden Dolls @ Astoria
www.meanfiddler.com

Saturday 13th May 7:30pm
The Rakes @ Shepherds Bush Empire
www.shepherds-bush-empire.com

Sunday 14th May 7:00pm
Battle of the Bands @ Rock Garden
www.rockgarden.co.uk

So...as promised, my review of Mann Friday at the Half Moon Putney, the same night that I saw Fiction Plane. There is something about seeing a band that you know nothing about - it's quite liberating, in a way - you have no preconceived ideas about them beforehand, and they really get a chance to prove themselves musically. It's very different hearing a band live as opposed to a on a CD and, as I've said before, hearing a band live is the best way to tell if they're any good. Mann Friday (www.mannfriday.com) have been compared to Dave Mathews Band, and I think there's a bit of John Mayer, Counting Crows, and even some Rob Thomas in there. If you know anything about my musical tastes, you may have gathered by now that I absolutely loved them. Their lead singer, Rob Burrell, performs with such an emotional honesty that complements the lyrics amazingly well. They've had three number ones in the unsigned charts and it's easy to see why. They're versatile and clearly comfortable with a variety of genres. Mann Friday has a growing fan base in London, and have just released a new album called "Blue Sky Science" which I would highly recommend. Definitely something for any music lover to investigate.

That's it for tonight...I'm off on holiday for the next nine days, so leave your comments and I'll read them when I'm back on the 18th :)

New Years' resolutions

This all started with a New Years' resolution...

I resolve to go to at least one gig in London every week.

I was perfectly prepared to do so, but with my work schedule being what it is, I had to admit that it was a pretty ambitious goal. And while I've failed on the "at least one a week" criteria, I have been to more in the past three months than the past three years combined. So it's a good start.

I started off the year with The Magnets at Riverside Studios. They are a six-member, all-male, pop a capella group, a genre for which I happen to have a certain affinity anyway. They were amazing and had the audience up and dancing in the aisles by the end of it. Their website is www.themagnets.com should you be interested. I saw them perform again at an event at work called "Comedy at the Court", a charity event to benefit One Parent Families. Again, fantastic. I even relinquished my usual job in order to watch them.

Two weeks later, clearly not keeping up with my original goal, I saw Toto at the Apollo Hammersmith in London. Yes, Toto, as in "Africa", "Hold the Line", and "Rosanna" among others. I was mocked when colleagues asked me where I was off to that night, but these are people that go to see the likes of Bryan Adams and Keith Urban and New Order, so I have to say I felt slightly redeemed. We arrived at the Apollo to find it absolutely heaving with people (I had no idea how many Toto fans there were in London!) and the set already underway. I always think that seeing a band perform live is really the best way to judge how talented they are, and Toto quite clearly proved this. They had lost the 80s synth sound prevalent in their "Greatest Hits" album that I had spent most of the day listening to, and even though it was a seated gig, were clearly rocking the house.

After this, I quite fancied the idea of going to see a band I had never heard of, so I bought tickets to see Fiction Plane and Mann Friday at the Half Moon in Putney. It's a really small venue behind a pub (they claim to hold 200 people, but I'm not convinced!) and when you stand at the front of the crowd you can touch the band, they're that close. Fiction Plane was up first, and played a really energising, get up and dance set, and even though most people were there to see Mann Friday, Fiction Plane definitely gained a few fans that night, including myself. Their latest album is called "Bitter Forces and Lame Race Horses" and at a mere £5 was a veritable bargain. Joe Sumner, their lead singer, reminded me of Stifler from "American Pie" and his energy on stage was infectious. I remember feeling vaguely exhausted after just watching them. They even brought on some horn players for the last song. Despite all their excitement and energy, they still managed to seem quite chilled out, and made their amazing performance seem almost effortless. A brilliant, brilliant band.

Well, that's enough for now, it's nearly time to head home, only to be back here in 12 hours!

More to come...including my reviews of Mann Friday, Nizlopi, Three Doors Down, The Boy Least Likely To, and the Kaiser Chiefs! Also, more about the impending launch of my radio statio, Radio K, playing the best of new and unsigned bands in the UK and US.

Until then...
